Centreville’s Louis Szymanski again showed his climbing form with a superb 2mins 43 seconds for 4th place in the Lancashire RC hillclimb on the Rake. After a misty and chilly start the sun was out by dinnertime and myself and Gary Lake had a good ride out there at a brisk pace (to keep warm!) and found a new café in Ramsbottom in place of the usual Watergate café in Hebden Bridge. On the climb we met up with several East Lancs members who had also ridden out and talked about memories of years gone by (and years to come) on the bike. The event was won by rapid climber Lee Baldwin from Buxton CC. The ride home ended up like a training ride over Owd Betts and now myself, Gary, Nick Holmes and Louis look forward to a hill climb on Cragg Vale next Sunday before I hang my wheels up for the season.
