Life is all about cooperation and compromise however humans are competitive and sport is the place for healthy competition.
It was interesting to listen to Chaz and his experiences from Cycle Speedway where laps are short and competition is fierce.
Chaz reminded me a little of Punk Legend, Johnny Rotten, who said,“…I am here to make you think”, Chaz clearly communicated, that we are responsible for our own actions when riding and racing and we must think of & for ourselves to avoid an incident.
There was excellent banter between Luke and Chaz especially in relation to, “Political correctness” Luke identifying that the Devil is now known as the elimination race. Chaz firmly identified with old the school name for the event and this lead me to Google, “Devil Take the Hindmost” which explains,
“Devil take the hindmost is a phrase that describes a situation in which someone thinks only of himself and his own interests, leaving others to deal with their own fates. Hindmost is an adjective that describes the person who is the furthest from the front or the one who is in the back of a line or group.”
With this in mind I asked John Drake for his views on the elimination race so watch this space for Johns thoughts. I have John’s report and will publish in a bit.
Due to Illness and commitments we missed the company of Dai, Sammy, Rick and Stan. However we had a great group of six (with an average age of 22) and formed our alliances as follows, Luke & Asa, Laura & Duncan, Me & Adam.
For the most part we were able to ride together and “Enjoy” individual efforts. I enjoyed riding with Adam who, with an interest in underwater hockey, could be a contender for club Polymath. Duncan’s energetic and gung-ho approach was exemplified by him breaking his chain towards the end of the session, while Club Chainring Laura increased her cadence and tidied up her racing line.
