A very sunny Easter weekend 2019 saw Centreville members get their white winter legs out and covered in factor 50, the better to enjoy cycling in all its forms, from time trialling and triathlon, to a trip away in Girona, NE Spain where Dan Martin gave the guys a wave, along with the usual weekend rides and an introductory ride for new members.
Mid Shropshire Wheelers 25m TT
Centreville vet Dan Shackleton raced to 9th from 91 finishers in his first time on the Mid Shropshire Wheelers 25m TT, clocking a swift 55.21.00. Dan wrote on Strava, “The course is definitley not a drag strip. I’m liking the Shropshire Courses though, they seem to use different ones and the roads are generally quieter with fewer potholes than Cheshire.” First place was taken by Luke Pollard Royal (Air Force Cycling Association) in 50:47:00.
Sigma Sports Classics Series, Buxton
Ben Stead was 8th from 39 finishers in the 3rd of 6 TTs in the Sigma Sports Classics Series near Buxton, clocking 1.26.38. The event was won by John Archibals (Ribble Pro Cycling) in 1.17.09. Ben described it as “A tough race but perfect conditions, certainly one to mark for next year. ”
Clitheroe Triathlon
V40 Jon Taylor travelled to Clitheroe for the Clitheroe Triathlon, involving a 400m swim, 30km road cycling and an 8km road run.
The event was won by Steven Mercer of Manchester Tridents in 1.48.08, and Jon really enjoyed it, finishing in a respectable 2.01.41 for 150th out of 290 finishers. Results here. Jon is now looking forward to the Alpe D’Huez x 6 in June!
Ben will be racing the Tameside Crit tomorrow night, and a 10 mile TT on Saturday. Next Sunday the focus will be on the Wigan Wheelers two-up Open 25 Miles TT L2525/1, where Centreville’s Ben Stead with Dan Shackleton, and Charlotte Boothman with Phil Jones (Transition Race Team) should be at the pointy end of the race.
