Dave Grogan assembled a team of four riders, Ray Brown, Aaron Roe and myself. A Master of Tactics Dave managed to get hold of a deadly virus a week ahead of the Hill Climb.This gave Dave the chance to Immunise himself, while passing on the lethal lurgy to his fellow team mates. Ahead of the event Ray Brown contracted the virus and was forced to pull out after blowing up on the previous days Blue Ball run. Aaron Roe determined to prove he had the cycling Genes proceeded to sign on and beat Dave and his wretched Virus, while I with nothing to prove foolishly signed on too.
It was a beautfiul sunny day, not quite the 20 MPH Easterly that Dave wanted but a gentle 4 MPH Southerly provided a nice assist on the final bend, ahead of the last lung busting straight. Rick Clough and Family provided the right level of encourgement ahead of the final straight ensuring we were putting the right level of effort in, while Gary Lake and MRS H shouted encouragement at the finish. When the results were in Aaron had managed to get 8 seconds ahead of Dave, while I was 1 Minute behind Dave.
East Lancashire Road Club had obviously succumbed to Dave’s Virus, as after a massive showing at last years event they didn’t field a single rider. Araon got fastest Junior with a time of 10.33.67, Dave fastest rider over 60, 10.41.54. After the presentation it was beer and sandwiches all round, life doesnt get any better than this.Fastest rider was Chris Smith 8.44.32 second fastest was Peter Greenwood 8.55.98 (who is also over 60), did I mention Dave Grogan was a master of tactics.
