My first trip to tameside ended very quickly as I got there after the last criterium of the season had got underway, I blame the M60 traffic.
Thursday was a much more successful session where I actually got onto the track. We started off with a much needed warm up on a cold evening with an icy wind. The 1 km track was lit thankfully and I quickly opted to lose the sunglasses. The first few laps were a gentle(ish) warmup where we were all able to get a feel for the track and get some heat in the legs. Being my first time on a closed circuit it took some getting used to using all of the road without worry of being hit by an oncoming obstacle.
This facility however made cornering very enjoyable and was only helped by Chaz’s instruction on how to take the corners as fast as possible. At points my turning wasn’t exactly smooth and at one point I clipped the grass after going too deep in the hairpin. But nevertheless, by the end of the session I felt able to do each corner relatively well and keeping it rubber side down (touchwood).
