Centreville track taster session – call for interest

Centreville track riding

From John Drake

The club is looking at the potential of having a velodrome session so members can try out track cycling, but needs to establish what the interest from members is to see if it is worth arranging.

The session would cater for all levels of riders from those who have never ridden the track but would like the opportunity, to the regular & Accredited  riders who ride the weekly SQT’s (Specific Quality Training sessions) etc and even club member Ken Whitehead who recently became World Masters Champion in the 65 to 69 year old Team Pursuit!

Don’t worry about not having a track bike for the velodrome has got a collection of  Dolan track bikes for hire – note these are equipped with Look Keo pedals only – they hire shoes to fit.

Currently we are in discussion with the velodrome management for the track availability. Most likely we will be looking at a mid Jan to end of Feb session date subject to the velodrome availability – there is a lot of demand through the winter months and via the velodrome arranged expanding programme.

Therefore could you please express your interest ASAP, giving name / days and times you can’t do / and track riding experience ie never, novice, accredited, or regular rider. Contact us through email, the website contact page, facebook or click below and add your name to the list,

This will allow a club decision to be made whether to progress to a booking, at which point we will know more about cost and timing.

Thanks in advance
John Drake, club President

  1. I’m back from holiday so will now add to this.

Rate obtained from talks at the track is that Dolan bikes are included for those without a track bike and the additional costs will be for shoe hire if you do not have Keo plated shoes.

On posting if interested it would be useful if you state the likes of – experienced rider accredited / novice / ridden previous but not accredited

There is a limit of 16 riders for the session so the priority will be the listing (I will not ride if others want to for I ride most weeks and for last twenty ++ years, I will be there to ‘coach’ & advise plus possible ‘on track’ coaching)
So below is the listing, please ‘cut and paste’ then add your name

    Rider listing
    1) Andy Riley
    2) John Drake – experienced accredited rider and ‘certified track coach’ / own bike

  10. To all who have registered an interest in a ‘club taster session’ thanks, unfortunately due to the availability of sessions now we have got sufficient interested there are only a few available ones.
With circa 75% on a Sunday evening 8 to 10 pm or the other circa 25% early weekdays at 8 or 9 am ish

So looking at a session later on maybe mid to late August, the calendar for August availability will be issued around mid May so then we stand a chance of booking a session with a reasonable time slot.

If you are interested in trying the track pre this date there are the velodromes ‘taster sessions’ , and if you want any guidance, advice or support for these let me know and I will supply what I can.

    Thanks
    John
