Madison Victory for Luke & Team

The world remains a confusing place and in the cycling world there is no event more confusing than the Madison, so it is pleasing to report, second claim member Luke and his partner Charlie won at the Derby velodrome, coming 7th over all in the Sprint competition.

It’s at this point I remember the joke, I think, Sprinter Tom Rotherham told me, “There are two types of cyclists, sprinters and those that can’t sprint” 😀

Pretty sure the Majority of Cyclists view things rather differently.

On Behalf of us all at Centreville, “Well Done Luke top result !”

  1. Well done Luke and more so with the limitations currently on the Manchester track and training availability.

Who was your main coach was it Tom Rotherham? I know Tom well for many moons ago he was one of the ones I coached at SportCity Velo – the club myself and Graham set up circa 20 years ago I was its first President and one of the coaches – was also a coach at Eastlands for many years.

The first batch into the new club moving up from Eastlands Velo were Steven Burke, Matt Crampton, Jason Kenny and following on both Yate’s , Chris Latham, Chris Lawless …….. Matt Rotherham

So you are in a club with a good club heritage.
Keep going and keep the road riding going to help with the base endurance and strength.

    All the best

  2. Hi John,
The velodrome closure certainly had an impact but they all rode really well and Luke and Charlie were great in madison despite not having practiced since last year. Tom has not been there while Luke has been there. He has done some sprint sessions with Matt and is also coached by Gerard Broughton, Don Pack and Tim. The club certainly has a rich history and is amalgamating into one club this year – new kit too!
I will say the road rides have been a big help to him and he has enjoyed some great help and advice.
Onwards and upwards and hopefully back on the track later this year.
    Many thanks

  3. Hi Sharon, thanks for that info.

Re back on the track date ‘slipped’ again to late October , I ride once or twice per week used to be more . Ridden since the first session that public were allowed to also in the first ever track league event – ridden a lot of races over the many many years.

I have been waiting for seems like ever now for the track to re open then will be immediately back into action.

In regards kit I still have, and it still fits, the original samples of the SportCity kit ( main colour deep blue) – short sleeve tops, skinsuit (which I sometimes still wear for sessions when I know current SportCity riders are riding) it was made in my size to ‘road test’ for a period to establish if the fabrics & manufacture were adequate, I think I can now report back its OK !!!!!
Also got a load of unused Talent Team kit from when I assisted Dave Brailsford setting up the original Talent Team (GB development squad) and helped him with coaching recruits – 1st squad was Jason / Matt / Burkey / my son, 8 in total
I also got ‘the Future Stars’ races included in the Revolution Series event 1

Pass my support on to Luke and if me ever needs a ‘sounding block’ let me know.
    John
