Centreville’s Pauline Cooper has been hard at work getting ready for the hill climb season: lots of efforts on strava hill segments around the South Pennines to get used to the “I think I’m going to die” heartrate, a swanky new Pinarello, and a visit to the “Longest hill on the longest day” event on Cragg Vale organised at the Robin Hood.
Some hardy (or should that be foolhardy?) souls are reputed to have gone up and down Cragg Vale repeatedly through the night to collect their lego bricks. Pauline made do with a few goes and a glass of cider. It hasn’t stopped her winning the Saddleworth Hill climb though, and placing second in the two-part Blackstonedge Hill Climb – with her East Lancs Road Club hat on.
