2019 was a fine vintage for the green white and blue fellowship of the wheel that is Centreville Cycling Club, a special highlight being Ken Whitehead’s gold in the team pursuit at the UCI World Masters Track Championship. From racing to rleaxing, touring to crashing we did it all, at home and away, mostly with big stupid grins on our fly-specked faces.. Compered by our esteemed club secretary Nick, the presentation evening celebrated all of it over some grub and liquid refreshment.

The Centreville Women’s Time Trial Award went to Charlotte Gorman for another great season, incuding some very speedy rides, with a 10 in 21:35; a 25 in 54:26; and a 100 in 4:18.

Ben Stead raced well on the road in 2019 to win the Centreville Road Race Award, including 2nd in the TCDG Race League, 2nd in the 3rd/4th cat race at the 3RT Day at the Racesand 7th in the 35-39 section of the National Masters Road Race

The Centreville BBAR (Best British All Rounder) award went to Dan Shackleton for his excellent 30th overall position, achieved by riding a 50 mile TT in 1:52:09, a 100 mile TT in 3:55:14 and riding 258.68 miles in a 12 hour TT. This gave an overall average time of 24.06mph. Results
Dan Shackleton also won the Centreville Time Trial Award, with 5th overall in the Manchester and District Time Trial Association series, and Paul Basson won the runner-up trophy, with 24th overall. M&DTTA results here
Dan Shackleton won the men’s Time Trial Award and the Centreville BBAR award….and the Half Wheeler award, though as Nigel mentioned it was usually more than a half wheel, more like several bike lengths or plain out of sight!Paul Basson was runner up for the Time Trial Award after a busy year riding wellNick Holmes won the Crasher Award for his spectacular wipe out near Keswick. He revealed that the ambulance taking him to hospital also crashed! That’s real crashing talent right there.The Meritus Award went to new treasurer Tony. If nobody steps up and makes a contribution there is no club – thanks Tony, it’s much appreciated! Tony is also getting much fitter…Pauline accepted the best Young Rider award on behalf of Vincci, who has made the transition from racing crits around Chicago to the steep banks of th Pennines and 200km audaxesVincci on the Centreville Lake District Trip, choosing the longest and lumpiest routeRob Taylor won the Clubman award, he’s as nice a guy as you will meet on a bike and always happy to ride with anyone struggling at the back – and even push them, even though he could ride at the front, with stamina to burn…Mandy accepted the Big Gear trophy on behalf of powerhouse triathlete Laura Tring who as well as winning triathlons just loves getting out on the bike….and on her feet…..and in the poolLaura couldn’t make the presentation but has now got her trophySue Carter won the Most Improved Trophy, having ridden the hard miles and become proper nails.The Tourist Trophy went to Geoff, apparently being happy to walk up hills clinched it.
