Dear All,
After some internal discussions and in line with advice from both the Government and from British Cycling, ABC Centreville is suspending club rides until 1 May 2020.
It’s worth taking 5 minutes to read the following guidance from British Cycling & Cycling UK,
https://www.cyclinguk.org/news/what-does-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak-mean-cycling
Keeping active remains important and so long as you follow the relevant guidance with regards to social distancing and hygiene, you can still go out on your bike. We (British Cycling) will continue to follow and assess Government advice, and you can do the same by following Guidance from the Government on social distancing, (see link below)
I wish you and your families all the very best at this challenging time,
Nick Holmes
Cheers Nick, and to all British Cycling issued a ‘keep fit’manual yesterday for downloading and its worth doing so. Some good off the bike exercises and links to yoga / pilates ‘videos’.
Also today they have ‘posted’ on their site a schedule of daily virtual group rides for those who use Zwift, also some spin / endurance / etc classes plus some time trials again worth looking at.
This is where a SMART trainer comes in like my Elite Real with over 2000 video / virtual rides and a lot of programmes for training plus it is very easy and quick to produce your own. Also you can upload your Garmin record of your rides like II have got the loop which goes back up Cragg – the software increases the turbos resistance more the steeper the ascent then lessens when less incline and becomes a ‘motor’ when descending. (you can even stop when you reach Hebden for a coffee !!)
Hope the info is useful
John
BCF also a ‘virtual ride series’ – https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/road/article/20200319-road-British-Cycling-launches-virtual-ride-series-0
the ‘indoor manual’ – https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/zuvvi/media/bc_files/membership/Ultimate_Guide_to_Indoor_Training_-_Desktop.pdf?utm_campaign=714311_Membership_Indoor_Training_Book_Download&utm_medium=email&utm_source=British%20Cycling%20V2&dm_i=480K,FB5Z,Y93DW,1QQLL,1
A club reference of useful sites for training, rides, nutrition etc could be built up here, if you have a ‘link’ to a site etc might be of interest to some club members so post below (subject to copyrights etc)

From Nick
Hi John
Thanks for that.
Thanks

Watch out if a ‘no cycling allowed’ rule comes in as per Spain and France for in France the police have assigned some police to monitor Strava and numerous riders have been charged and fined heavily for flouting the rule.
They had logged their rides on Strava, the police picked this up from the Strava site, then sourced the ‘logger’ which then resulted in the charge and heavy fine – they used the Strava ride file as evidence.
France and Spain have banned cycling for if you have an accident / come off / etc then emergency services & doctors and nurses will have to attend to you instead of dealing with the virus matters
This message covers something I mentioned in a ‘post’ previously way pre Covid – 19 but is probably more relevant now.
I always whether road or track ride with an ID wristband on ( mine is from ICEUK) and this has got on it my name, home address via post code, my NHS number, ref to allergies or medications being taken, home tel number, ICE No of a.n.other person
( other ID is available from ICEUK and the like ie neck lockets, ‘pods’ that attach to shoe laces, helmet pods etc)
That way if you have an accident etc whether involving a third party or not ie coming off taking a bend too fast or ‘hitting’ a patch of diesel on the road then whoever attends you has got info readily available. Especially if you have allergies ie reaction to say paracetamol or in my case it proved immensely valuable when a few years ago I got hit by a drunk driver and the ambulance ‘flashed up’ my NHS record so took additional measures re my previous broken back and neck.
Raising this for with the not riding in groups protocol you will be alone and with nobody to advise services etc of who you are, previous occurrences, meds etc
Hopefully will not but needed – but just in case
John
All, it is worth reviewing the BCF update of yesterday with one important element re insurance validity of the BCF policy.
The insurance still remains in place but becomes invalid if it is found that compliance of the BCF guidelines are not followed especially ‘social distancing ‘ – therefore the return to group / accompanied rides should be carefully thought out before doing.
Suspect likewise other insurances follow the same conditions
